150 Berufsschüler*innen treffen die Namenlosen Ein dreitstufiges Vermittlungsprojekt für Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene mit Nesterval und QWIEN

Wie werden Feind- und Fremdbilder konstruiert? Was bedeutete der Rosa Winkel?

The series brut accessible deals with aesthetics and conditions of accessibility in the performing arts. In workshops, discourse formats, artistic impulses and a conference, experiences of artists and audiences with disabilities can be discussed, existing practices can be explored, and new incentives and impulses can be created: lived experience and perception is at the center of this discussion.

Publication on 20 Years of FREISCHWIMMEN – Platform for Dance, Theatre and Performance in Germany, Austria and Switzerland

In the independent performing arts, it is perhaps emerging artists who most need spaces for artistic development, networking, building up trust, sustainable production structures, and gaining international visibility. Since its founding in 2004, FREISCHWIMMEN, as the platform for dance, theater, and performance in the German-speaking world, has made all of this possible across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland’s national borders.

For our current artwork, photographer AnaHell came to Vienna to shoot new photos on the area of brut nordwest. AnaHell often uses the human body as fluid material that can transform into beings that transcend the purely human. Her images reveal the absurdity of the ordinary, creating a parallel reality where the real and the surreal collide. Here we show some impressions from the photo shoot in autumn.

Looks like it has begun IV – So much space!

In brut nordwest everything is united under one roof: colleagues and artists can meet again in one place, exchange ideas and participate in the development of the projects together. In addition to event and rehearsal areas, there is also enough space for the administration offices, the technology warehouse and lounge areas for employees and artists in the Nordwestbahnstraße. The new edition of "Looks like it has begun" takes a look at the areas on the sideline of the big stage.

Looks like it has begun III – Please take your seats!

A lot has happened in brut nordwest over the last few weeks and months to adapt the former industrial hall in the 20th district to a theater. On the checklist for the first premiere in front of an audience, only a few points have to be done. Now that a lot of black molton transforms the center of the hall into a black box, t is no longer difficult to imagine the first evening of the premiere. Rehearsals have already started!

Looks like it has begun II – Stage clear at brut nordwest

Work continues in brut nordwest. brut has performed at 90 venues in 19 Viennese districts over the past few years - some of them in places completely unfamiliar to the theatre, such as on the lakeside of Seestadt Aspern or in the huge laundrette of the Matteottihof in the 5th district. The many experiences in adapting new theatrical locations are now benefiting us! And yet it is something quite new to transform a former factory hall into a theatre venue for several years. . . .

Looks like it has begun I – a stopover with a lot of potential

There's already a lot going on behind the scenes at brut nordwest and we can't wait to welcome our audience here. Until the completion of the future permanent venue in St. Marx, brut will find a new temporary home in the Nordwestbahnstraße for three years. The nomadic existence of the last few years will come to an end except for the further planned site-specific projects. Until the moving to St. Marx, brut nordwest will become the center for New Art on Stage in the 20th district. studio brut will continue to exist as a secondary venue in the 7th district. The “Looks like it has begun” magazine series will shed light on the background to the development of brut nordwest. In the first issue: How did the brut get on the Nordwestbahnstraße?

The adaption process of the new venue "brut nordwest" has started

A new space for performance, dance and theater is emerging – In January, the adaptation of the new brut venue “brut nordwest” in Vienna's Nordwestbahnstraße 8-10 started. The 1.600 square meter factory building right next to the Augarten will be transformed into brut's temporary main venue in the upcoming weeks. From March 2021, rehearsals for the imagetanz Festival will begin in brut nordwest. Performances will be opened to spectators as soon as the circumstances permit them. The location brut nordwest will be in use until the end of 2023.

Simple answers and populist slogans are currently booming in politics. In view of this, the brut program invites us to pause, change perspectives, and discard prefabricated perspectives. This autumn's artists* ask complex political questions, raise contradictions, develop poetic visions and create space for openness and imagination.
