To open brut’s new season, Norwegian choreographer Ingri Fiksdal will bring the panoramic version of her impressive performance series Diorama to Seestadt Aspern after successfully showing it around the world. Onto to the scenic backdrop of the lake at sunset Diorama paints a meditative live scenery made of bodies and objects that changes constantly through movement, light and sound, allowing spectators to feel very acutely the passing of time and the evolvement of the landscape.
4 pm: Aperitivo – Preface to Diorama. Free admission. Please register here.
On Saturday, 05. October, the FABRIK in Seestadt (Sonnenallee 137) is already open from 4 pm before the performance (duration) and also after the performance, you can warm up there with a hot drink.
7 pm: Season opening with DJ Uschi Ultra and Colonial cocktail tasting by and with Stefanie Sourial. Info here
The term diorama is mostly used for three-dimensional model representations of landscape such as those displayed in natural history museums. Another definition refers to a mobile theatre device invented by Louis Daguerre in 1822 France, which is used to bring large-surface paintings of landscapes to life by means of artful lighting and sound effects and live performers. In her own diorama performances, Ingri Fiksdal uses choreography as a lense by which she affects or alters a certain view and its context. The resulting performance is a reflection on the passing of time, the slow change of a landscape and scenography as an ecological practice by human and non-human bodies. The music created by gothic metal player Jenny Hval and noise specialist Lasse Marhaug varies between drone-like echoes, staccato industrial noise and enigmatically whispering voices that float across the landscape.
The pieces by Norwegian artist Ingri Fiksdal are characterised by their formal aesthetic and their fusion of dance, sound, light and costumes. Fiksdal’s projects are designed to shift their audiences’ state of mind and to provoke unforeseen experiences. Her works tour the world; her previous appearances in the brut programme include the site-specific performance Night Tripper (2012/13) and the stage piece HOODS (imagetanz 2015).
Please note that the performance will take place outdoors in all weather conditions. If necessary, please remember to bring rain gear and appropriate footwear.
„Ingri Fiksdal's epic utopian Diorama, yes, I almost call it epic, a narrative epic work. (…) It was installation, dance, image and motion. (…) There were shapes that hide the human body, but where bodyliness takes place in harmony with nature, a costume that contains something organic, almost amorphous, and slowly moves around the landscape.“
