It’s time for PING PONG SPLIT SCREEN to hit the big screen! irreality.tv presents the gala premiere of their new series, which is all about a ping pong table. In May and June of 2023, irreality.tv took this table to various places around brut nordwest and invited people to play – a round of ping pong and/or a part in their soap opera. Half documentary, half fiction, PING PONG SPLIT SCREEN reveals all that happened at and around this unusual ping pong table, including unexpected spins and quick flips.
irreality.tv’s new series PING PONG SPLIT SCREEN hits the big screen. The series is all about a very special ping pong table that appeared on Vienna’s Wallensteinplatz and Volkertplatz in May and June of 2023. It’s blue, circular, kind of pretty different. And, as usual with irreality.tv, everybody who was up for it could play along – a round of ping pong with the adidas-blue-clad performer Otmar Wagner, and/or a part in the series. Plots were not pre-written but developed on location with the participants. There was plenty of playing, exercising, dreaming, eating, building, losing, and winning. Half documentary, half fiction, PING PONG SPLIT SCREEN reveals the events around the infamous ping pong table. As the ball went back and forth, numerous stories and places found together. Now it’s time for irreality.tv’s big gala premiere – and yes, there will be a VIP photowall and the whole shebang!
irreality.tv is a platform for site-specific, participatory television projects. Their series are created in collaboration with people on location. Everybody is allowed to participate and devise the plot together with the performers. All projects circle around the question what should or could happen if life was a TV show. Which is what actually might happen on set in a process irreality.tv calls soapification.
Simon Oberhammer is an architect and occasional set designer. He designed a secret sleep architecture for NIGHTWATCH and a congress centre populated by ghosts for EXIT GHOST; both were series by irreality.tv.
Otmar Wagner is a performance artist and amateur ping-pong player who in earlier series by irreality.tv has played such crucial roles as the resident of a guerrilla camp, the manager of Café Sandmann, and a priest of paranormal phenomena.
