(De-)Constructing Identity: Gender, race a construct? – and what about belonging?

Additional program JUSTITIA! Identity Cases

brut nordwest
Panel / Roundtable in German and English

In the performance JUSTITIA! Identity Cases it's said that "Identities are always performative".

When and why do we need to construct identities to achieve social, personal, or political ends?

Where do we as a society draw the line as to what may and may not be constructed? Identities are fluid: but whose identity is recognized and whose identity is dismissed as fake? And why?

In court it is necessary to prove one's identity as credibly as possible. In the theater we go in search of multiple identities. But in the end, isn't it about equality instead of identity? Questions that arose during the research process for JUSITITIA! Identity Cases, and which are negotiated by the ensemble in the production itself, we discuss with: Marty Huber, Authentically Plastic, Lea Susemichel, Faris Cuchi Gezahegn, Gin Müller and Sandra Selimović. Moderated by Carmen Gheorghe.
