Rykena/Jüngst
Carolin Jüngst & Lisa Rykena have been working together as a duo between the cities of Munich and Hamburg since 2016. In their dance productions, they roamed strip clubs, 1920s cabaret theatres, Ovid’s Metamorphoses and queer comic book conventions, provoking encounters between mermaids, she-Hulks, expressive arias, velvety stages and marble down jackets. In their work, they like to deal with queer-feminist, intersectional and ableism-critical body discourses and the transformation of the normative categorisation of bodies. In doing so, they draw on material from the classics, mythology and popular culture, turning it into new characters, hybrid shapes and grotesque embodiments with the aim to resolve stereotypical, clichéd and heteronormative (gender) attributions.
