‘Time to Say Goodbye,’ dear brut nordwest! But before the curtain falls here for the last time and before Kira Kirsch bows out as artistic director, brut is celebrating a night full of farewell songs with the Hamburg collective Queereeoké. With karaoke, spontaneous choreography, performance art and subversive humour, a unique, interactive show is created that is both fun and challenging. True to the motto: it's not how you sing that matters – it's what you bring to the table. Queereeoké is an ecstatic show that is part nightclub, part performance and part safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies. A unique support mechanism promotes self-expression, community and queer utopia: sex-positive, consent-based and full of radical gentleness.
Queereeoké is an ecstatic show, a nightclub experience and a safe space concept where you can express yourself without the pressure of judgement. The show is designed for the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies. Using karaoke, spontaneous choreography, anarchic performance art and subversive humour, it creates a unique, interactive show that is both fun and challenging. The team provides an accessible stage and the magic of the so-called ‘support mechanism,’ which transforms the Queereeoké space into the ultimate utopia of a queer society with its own rules, where everyone can find their voice and self-expression. In short, Queereeoké is the comeback of the queer club, an endangered species of subculture: passionate protest, radiating radical gentleness, all wrapped up in a sex-positive vibe with consent. An explosion of queer power from Dirrty to Diva, true to the motto: it's not how you sing that matters – it's what you bring to the table!
Queereeoké is a collective of queer artists from various disciplines such as drag, performance, singing and dance, who are self-taught in many skills. In the spirit of DIY culture, Queereeoké asserts an understanding of art as a queer life practice far removed from elitist, perfection-seeking concepts of art. Karaoke, as the basis of their joint artistic practice, unites many of the influences that have shaped the artists and enables the team to combine leisure activities and club culture with activist processes. Queereeoké is a space created by the queer community for the queer community and its allies: the Queereeoké team develops ways of developing and implementing artistic practices that are free of discrimination.
