Questionology is a research environment created by Cordula Daus and Charlotta Ruth. Together with a team of almost doctors they have designed a walk-in programme to train what might be the last genuinely human quality: to question, to be questioned. Participants are invited to trace and recover lost objects and thoughts. In doing so, they are supported by techniques derived from language art, choreography, midwifery, neuro-science, witchcraft, and software engineering enabling the creation of new intelligences.

Cordula Daus, Charlotta Ruth & Team – Questionology. Programme for Applied Questioning

“We are standing outdoors. Our pelvic floor is ready, our gaze is wide. Slowly, we zoom in: Solar system. Earth. Austria. Vienna. Zentrum Fokus Forschung, brick. Welcome to Questionology, the world’s first walk-in research programme for Applied Questioning. Everything is already there. All we need is the right move to get it out.”

Questionology is based on a shared fascination of autopoietic systems that generate words and worlds independent of their creators. In their joint project, writer Cordula Daus and choreographer Charlotta Ruth combine their respective artistic research: While Daus deals with the interrelation between language, body and intensity, Ruth explores ‘liveness’ in participatory art and game design.

INFO

For the most part, Questionology takes place in the open air in the garden of the Center Focus Research.

Cordula Daus experiments with making and unmaking sense. Her work has been presented in the form of artist books, lecture performances, and exhibitions, for example at Research Pavilion #3 in Venice, at Wiener Festwochen, Centre d’Art Santa Mónica, Conceptual Poetics Day/Akademie der Künste Berlin. Daus is the author and editor of the series Toponymisches Heft. She is also a co-founder of the Special Interest Group for language-based artistic research (SAR) and an Elise Richter PEEK Research Fellow (FWF). https://toponymie.de/

Charlotta Ruth plays with time and perception in choreography and game design. Ruth’s works have been presented internationally, for example at Tanzquartier, WUK, brut Wien, City Games Vienna, MDT, Dansens Hus, Moderna Museet Stockholm, and the Research Pavilion #3 in Venice. Ruth is part of the artistic research Neuromatic Game Art by Margarete Jahrmann (FWF/PEEK). Together with Jasmin Schaitl, she heads the INTRA research project WITHDRAWING THE PERFORMER at the APL (Angewandte Performance Laboratory/University of Applied Arts Vienna). http://charlottaruth.com/

Pressestimmen

"You can imagine walking through a questionnaire in which multiple-choice fields open up. You can take one direction or the other or hang out on a question for a while. Questionology" is an entergame for ideas. And a relaxed research environment. There are scavenger hunts and towel-keeping courses. You can get a taste here: brick.questionology.net."
