In come from somewhere go anywhere, Willi Dorner condenses songs, slogans and advertising messages from recent decades and centuries into a night of song and dance – a jigsaw puzzle assembled from pieces that present parallels between the different periods, allowing themes of revolution, change and crisis to re-surface again and again from time to time. This diverting piece of entertainment will allow what historical theorist Siegfried Kracauer once described as accurately analysing and describing an epoch based on its simple surface manifestations.
“Come from somewhere go anywhere” … “Make yourself a priority” … “Ich bin mehr” … “Many, not the few” … “Glaub an dich” … “Love what you do” … “I am real”. These are the slogans that three dancers, a singer and a piano player in Willi Dorner’s dance and song recital show will take as their starting point for a quest for inspiration in 1920s musical revues, sayings, poetry, literature and songs from different periods in history. From Schubert and Brecht to OK Kid, the mix will be diverse but nevertheless present a few parallels between different periods of revolution. Does history repeat itself after all, at least in part?
