the way of ink ••º• by Asher O’Gorman is a close and respectful physical dialogue between the human and material bodies; Bringing an equality and agency to both; Drawing you in, acting as a microscopic lens and submerging the viewer into an environment where the smallest of details matter. It guides us towards the tactile nature of things, highlighting the exhilarating experience of the body when given over to working with real stuff, satisfying noises and physical contact.

Asher O’ Gorman meticulously activates a chain of events in conversation and collaboration with cellulose materials; chromatography paper, floral foam and writing inks. Subtly, the work challenges our anthropomorphic perspective and suggests we approach our lives with greater wonder and humility towards ordinary non-human objects.

While working on it, the way of ink ••º• incorporated for the Vienna-based artist Asher O’Gorman more and more anessential union of her own, her gender and her people’s cultural origin with both landscape, culture and language. The Irish phrase ‘briseann an dúchas’ refers to the innate quality of a person’s heritage breaking out – becoming manifest in her character and illustrates how we are a subject of our environment, how landscape and humans are interrelated. The landscape writes us and we write the landscape. An osmotic conjunction takes place between the two bodies.

Irish artist Asher O’Gorman lives and works in Vienna. Her work incorporates choreographic and visual art practices. Asher holds a B.A.(Honours) in choreography (Dartington College of Arts (UK)), and completed her training at (SEAD) Salzburg. She is completing her MA at the TransArts Department, University of Applied Arts, Vienna. She received both the DanceWEB scholarship ImPulsTanz and the Austrian Federal Chancellor’s Office STARTStipendium. She recently performed 16.01.2018, a collaboration with artist Anne-Clara Stahl at PFERD forum for contemporary art Vienna and at the Kunstraum Lakeside Klagenfurt. At imagetanz 2019, Asher O’Gorman presented a work in progress of The way of ink ••º•.
