Brume de Mer, the new piece by Finnish choreographer Elina Pirinen, is an exhilarating stage sonata performed by a cast of five virtuoso dancers. In a violet space emitting a peculiar fragrance, round dances meet lyrical song and an intense organ composition that will get under your skin.
On March 22nd there will be an artist talk following the performance at Ateliere Augarten – Café.
In Brume de Mer, which translates as “ocean haze”, the body exits the body. Obsessions and joys, affections and taboos, night and day dreams, perversion and seduction become defining elements. The five performers give in to these emotions, experience them and give Elina Pirinen’s special aesthetic a personal touch.
The dancers celebrate their physical processes with abstract psychodynamic round dances, polyphonic hymns sung live and massive, intense organ sounds. An intensity of this kind allows Brume de Mer to capture, to intoxicate, to fascinate and to thereby create a special intimacy between the dancers and the audience. Whoever submits to this intimacy will feel rational thinking slowly disappear and uncover hidden layers of the sensitive body. Brume de Mer is an intense physical and sensual experience – an exhilarating feast for all the senses.
Elina Pirinen lives in Helsinki as a choreographer, dancer, musician, curator and teacher. In her works, she intertwines feminist, psychodynamic, intimate bodies, language and aesthetics, always trying to combine said practice with an intuitive, romantic and collaborative process of thinking and experience. In Helsinki, Elina Pirinen regularly works with Zodiak – Brand New Dance at the Cable Factory, the Kiasma Theatre/Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Mad House and the Performance Art Society. She teaches at the Helsinki University of Arts’ Theatre Academy and produces experimental baroque rock music with her own orchestra called Bambi Lammella. In Vienna, she showed her piece Personal Symphonic Moment at the 2015 Vienna Dance Festival. At imagetanz, she will now present her new group performance Brume de Mer for the first time in the German-speaking area.
