Opening the imagetanz festival, the acclaimed British performance duo Lone Twin will interpret a mighty playlist with choreographies by their artistic cronies from the past twenty years: Last Act of Rebellion gathers contributions by Richard Maxwell, Tim Etchells (Forced Entertainment), Gob Squad, Ivana Müller, Jonathan Burrows and many more. The two Lone Twins Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters will dance one last hilarious dance of youth before maturity inevitably and irrevocably sets in as a result of twenty years of stage experience.
In order to open a new chapter in their oeuvre after so many years of joint performance work, Gary Winters and Gregg Whelan of Lone Twin asked acquainted fellow artists from all genres to select a song from the comprehensive playlist they have been accumulating since 1997. Each contributor, be it a choreographer, visual artist, theatre-maker or dancer, has choreographed a dance to one song from the playlist for Gary and Gregg. Last Act of Rebellion shows the whole series of danced duets, some of which are outrageous, some baffling, some hilarious. So, opening the festival as if there was no tomorrow, two men in their mid-forties will dance the night away to songs that may be a little too well known.
Lone Twin was established by Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters in 1997 and is considered one of the leading British companies in the field of contemporary performance. Their key works include, for example, the six-year series The Days of the Sledgehammer Have Gone or the much-toured three-part theatre performance The Catastrophe Trilogy. For Boat Project in 2010, Lone Twin involved several thousands of people in the collective construction of a boat, which won them the prestigious Artists Taking the Lead Award at the London Cultural Olympiad. Lone Twin work with numerous festivals and venues across the world, such as BITE/The Barbican in London, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, the Melbourne International Festival, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Sydney Festival, steirischer herbst in Graz and many more.
