A postcard project

Connecting Views is based on the idea that the image of a city is constructed through the experiences and personal histories of its residents. Audience club attendants at two venues of the EU project Be SpectACTive! – Sansepolcro and Vienna – have documented places in their respective hometowns that tell a personal story about connections and being connected: a park bench, a bar, a neighbourhood bridge, a boarding school, and so on.

Rather than popular tourist attractions, the assembled places include those that allow insights into the everyday life of local communities. Their significance derives from intimate stories, special memories, associations, or daily routines. The places and personal stories are presented to the audience in a postcard format. Sööt/Zeyringer invite viewers to learn about these places, to even visit them, or else to send the postcard to a friend or other person they want to get in touch with.

This project is realised in co-operation with participants of the European Art Commissioners project in Sansepolcro and Vienna. European Art Commissioners is an initiative within the EU network Be SpectACTive!. The aim of the project is to create strong bonds between artists, experts and the citizens of local communities through co-commissioning practices. Every year, two groups in two places enter an exchange to define a common topic of importance for the political and social issues in their local contexts. brut’s audience club BEATE in Vienna and the Visionari of the Kilowatt festival in Sansepolcro (Italy) have chosen the topic ‘connection’ and commissioned the duo Sööt/Zeyringer to do their project Connecting Views.
