Specifically for Vienna’s Natural History Museum, Doris Uhlich and Boris Kopeinig will develop a new, durational version of the stage solo performance TANK. The tank will be installed in the anthropology section for three days, allowing Doris Uhlich to move around in the history of humankind. Its transparent walls turn the tank into an oversized test tube, creating a dynamic space of reflection on physicality and time.

Its transparent walls turn the tank into an oversized test tube, creating a dynamic space of reflection on physicality and timeBased on the stage version of the play shown at the Vienna Dance Festival ImPulsTanz 2019, performer Doris Uhlich is now preparing a site-specific version of TANK with DJ/video artist Boris Kopeinig and brut Wien to be performed in the middle of the Natural History Museum’s public collection. The eponymous tank, constructed by Berlin-based collective Proper Space, will be installed in the anthropology section for three days, allowing Doris Uhlich to move around in the history of humankind. In science fiction, tanks are a motif for the isolation of unknown, dangerous life forms. Doris Uhlich’s tank will be turned into a place to try out body transformations and study how new technologies change the way we think about our bodies. Its transparent walls will make it appear as a type of magnifying glass, creating a dynamic space of reflection on physicality and time.
Choreographer/performer Doris Uhlich is a constant presence in both the Austrian and the international dance scenes thanks to her performances that tackle political issues in very personal manners. In 2018 and 2019, she was “Dancer of the Year” according to tanz magazine. In addition to putting on her own productions, she is also a teacher at such institutions as the Max Reinhardt Seminar. www.dorisuhlich.at
