"Sometimes things don’t go as you would like them to happen. (I know, this is quite an understatement these days.) In my case it was my performance a body of stories which was cancelled. But, I feel fortunate to have been able to do something else instead. This video is this "something else". The video explains itself, it’s the story of how I became a dancer and performer. It is a story with a beginning and an open end, because I’m still out there!" Frans Poelstra
In 1971, Frans Poelstra was 17 years old and didn’t know what to do with his life. Rather by accident, he stumbled into a job as a follow-spot operator at a trashy cabaret show, and he has been in the performing arts ever since. In 2004, he moved to Vienna, where he lives and works today. In his performances, Frans Poelstra mixes dance, (live) music, video and text in such a way that people start to wonder: “Am I dreaming this or is what I see actually possible? Acceptable?” Looking back at his career from this point of view, one might even regard it as a big, trashy cabaret show.
