The world of the resistance against the rule of 24/7 is shown on the big screen! After a very intense shooting in May and June, NIGHTWATCH, a humorous science fiction dystopia by the performance TV collective irreality.tv, will be presented as part of a glamorous gala at the Stadtkino. All participants will walk over the red carpet and then binge-watch the series together with the audience.
Based on Jonathan Crary’s essay 24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep, irreality.tv tells the story of a world without sleep, in which the resistance organisation NIGHTWATCH fights for the return of sleep. The scenario of a 24/7 world called on the participants to imagine – and live while shooting – fictitious everyday lives in their own lives. Their fictitious stories included, among other things, a night hike including a pursuit with drones, a sleep yodel performance, listening to a concert while lying down, a boxing match of huge owls, etc. Many participants got actively involved in the project and contributed their ideas. irreality.tv does not provide any scripts. The series was then cut over the summer, it was polished up with the music of Lukas Kranzelbinder (EXPRESSWAY SKETCHES) – and the Stadtkino will now show the result.
irreality.tv is a platform for site-specific and participatory TV projects. Its series are created in collaboration with the people on location; everybody is welcome to join. Projects are centred around the question: What should or could happen if life was a TV show? In the 2016/17 season, irreality.tv realised another series, DER RING DES NIBELUNGENVIERTELS, in co-production with brut.
