Move to the Beat – Stay for the Pasta

The photo shows the upper bodies of two white women in motion. The person who photographed them was standing a little lower down and took the picture from below. The women are wearing light-coloured jeans and black long-sleeved shirts. Their hair is loose and shoulder-length. They are both bent forwards. Their faces meet in the centre with a dreamy expression and gaze into the distance. One of the women's arms is organically placed above their heads and dances in front of an urban background of grey and colourful spray-painted house walls.

The theatre season is coming to an end and brut is taking this opportunity to invite you once again: After a dance workshop with Katharina Senk / Senki and Theresa Scheinecker / Ray, we invite you to a pasta dinner at brut nordwest. Food and drinks are the perfect way to look back on the last highlights of brut accessible and look forward to the coming season together!

96 % occupancy at imagetanz 2025!

A group of young people are chatting at a party or event in a club setting with purple and red lighting. A disco ball on the ceiling casts light rays, while guests hold drinks and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere. A banner in the background partially reads “WE ARE HIDING ....”

This year’s extremely successful imagetanz festival at brut Wien came to a close on 12 April. In five venues over four weeks, 2,700 visitors experienced seven productions on stage with 17 performances (including four world premieres and two Austrian premieres), five showings, seven artist talks, three parties, two workshops, a book presentation, a touch tour and much more. With a total of 31 individual events, a occupancy rate of 96% was achieved. Thank you to everyone who watched, crossed a rice paddy, ate pizza, danced, clapped and cheered together with us!

Support for the Serapions Theater | Odeon

A promotional image for the crowdfunding campaign of Serapions Theater, celebrating 45 years at the Odeon. The image is split in two: on the left, an artistic blurred photo of two dancers, one with long red hair, in a dramatic embrace; on the right, a group of expressive dancers in motion on stage. Below, on an orange background, the text reads: “45 years Serapions Theater” and in large turquoise letters “CROWDFUNDING.” Below that, it says: “Join now & secure unique thank-you gifts!”

The Serapions Theater, which created a place of creative diversity and artistic freedom in Vienna with the founding of the Odeon, is celebrating 45 years of theater art. In order to preserve and continue writing a chapter of theatre history together, there is now the opportunity to participate in crowdfunding and to set an example for the future of the Odeon in Vienna on the occasion of the anniversary.

Magazin

A smiling man looks directly at the camera. He has short dark hair, a well-groomed beard, and is wearing a dark blue turtleneck sweater. His right hand touches his neck, revealing a wristwatch with a wooden frame and dark face. The background is a solid dark blue. The lighting highlights his friendly face and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Tomasz Kireńczuk becomes the new artistic director of brut Wien

On 02 June 2025, City Councillor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler announced the appointment of Tomasz Kireńczuk as the future artistic director of brut Wien. The current director of the Santarcangelo Festival will take over from Kira Kirsch from summer 2026 and will continue to develop the successful course of the co-production house of the independent theatre, choreography and performance scene. We look forward to welcoming him to brut!
An artist wearing black trousers and a green knitted jumper works on a sculptural installation made of painted branches leaning against a white wall. Around her are rugs, fabrics, and art materials. Various artworks hang on the wall, including a floral textile piece, a banner reading “CHEESE IN YOUR WINGS,” and a woven object.

Selection made: 5 residences in brut Wien awarded

The decision has been made: The artists for the rehearsal residencies at brut Wien in May and June 2025 have been chosen! In view of the high quality and large number of submissions, the originally planned number of three residencies has been increased to five. In this way, we want to give even more exciting artistic projects space to unfold.

Open Call – Academy of Unlearning

The Academy of Unlearning by kulturen in bewegung is a mentoring programme lasting several months for migrant and BIPoC women* in cultural mediation. It connects mentees with cultural mediators from Viennese institutions, including brut Wien, offers insights into their work and structures and enables the joint development and implementation of a mediation idea in the institution's programme.
