imagetanz 2024 Festival Opening

"

“Together we want to create anti-ableist approaches and enable an accessible present and future in the performing arts. Not only because it is beautiful and exciting and enriches social and artistic processes on many layers, but because unrestricted participation on all levels is a fundamental right of disabled, chronically ill, crip, neurodivergent, deaf, hearing impaired, blind and visually impaired people.”

"

Quote from the announcement text for The Art of Access by Tanja Erhart and Julischka Stengele

The series brut accessible deals with aesthetics and conditions of accessibility in the performing arts. In workshops, discourse formats, artistic impulses and a conference, experiences of artists and audiences with disabilities can be discussed, existing practices can be explored, and new incentives and impulses can be created: lived experience and perception is at the center of this discussions.

brut is utilizing imagetanz 2024 to locate a diverse forum for this debate at the center of the institution and is making it its mission to anchor the experiences and analyzes gained from it in the institutions own structures in the long term. brut accessible creates the first impetus for a series of necessary and great changes that we want to continue to implement step by step. We know that we are still at the beginning and are establishing this open learning process at brut to find out how we can create accessibility in temporary spaces and what precisely is needed to sustainably embed the reduction of barriers into bruts very own working structures. Preliminaries and experiences are now being tested and finally consolidated and incorporated at brut's new location in St. Marx.

brut will keep you posted about the upcoming changes on the homepage, which is updated regularly.
