In the coming years, brut will increasingly launch new projects in open spaces and in direct exchange with the city. New places will be tapped as venues, ranging from shop vacancies or community halls to parking sites, peripheral industrial areas or churches. In addition, brut will increasingly cooperate with various (art-related) institutions in Vienna.
In its site-specific projects taking place outside of the theatre, brut aims to establish manifold references to new spaces and players of the city, to involve people and to create possibilities for exchange and communication beyond the usual theatre environment and established audience layers. brut+ projects are able to react more intensively to their surroundings, to the societal, economic, cultural, political or historical dimensions of a place, to really engage with the people and the conditions on site and to address pressing questions. Alternative, novel forms of the public sphere can thus be created in a city space that is increasingly at risk of being lopsidedly oriented along the rules of consumerism. The site-specific projects also aim at trying out new formats of art and representation, shifting the focus from the production and presentation of art to a mutual process of reception and communication. Thus, art can be shifted beyond the borders of art institutions, offering alternative approaches and opening new spaces for communication.
