The series deals with forms, aesthetics and conditions of accessibility in the performing arts. Workshops, performances and discourse formats are used to discuss the experiences of experts, try out alternative practices and create new stimuli and impulses. The experiences of people with disabilities are at the centre of this process.
Together, we want to create anti-ableist access and make the present and future of the performance and dance world barrier-free. Not only because it is beautiful and exciting and enriches social and artistic processes on many levels, but also because unrestricted participation on all levels is a fundamental right of disabled, chronically ill, crip, neurodivergent, deaf, deafened, blind and visually impaired people.
Quote from the announcement text for The Art of Access by Tanja Erhart and Julischka Stengele
brut accessible deals with forms, aesthetics and conditions of accessibility in the performing arts. This series presents existing artistic positions from a variety of perspectives, with the question of (new) approaches forming the starting point for the creative process.
Workshops, performances and discourse formats will be used to discuss the experiences of experts, try out alternative practices and create new stimuli and impulses. The lived experiences of artists and visitors with disabilities are at the centre of this process.
The aim of the current season is to establish various connections with blind and visually impaired audiences and to anchor these in the long term. In addition to dance and movement workshops, workshops that teach audio description as an artistic tool are part of brut accessible. In addition to the brut venues, our programme will also take place away from the stage, directly with the people and in the communities.
