accessible brut comprises a range of workshops, artistic works and debate formats on accessibility in dance and performance. It is the format’s goal to make visible diverse intersectional perspectives and create new incentives and impulses considering disabled audiences and artists in artistic creative processes from their inception.
accessible brut represents the institution’s position and objective to challenge and dismantle existing processes and structures that keep up barriers and exclusion. We aim to design thinking, curating and producing in a manner allowing persons with disabilities equal participation.
brut Wien is in constant development. We are aware that accessibility is never fully achieved and that we will always have to try harder to include all perspectives. So, let’s talk about it! Do you have a question, comment or piece of criticism regarding the topic of accessibility at brut Wien? Please reach out to us directly by e-mail at brehm@brut-wien.at or via WhatsApp at +43 676 587 8723.
Relax, take it easy. Snooze, rest, stim, commune – it’s crip time.
How can we design a dance show or performance that doesn’t involve hours of sitting and the senses being overwhelmed by sound and light?
Over the next few months, we will explore the format of the relaxed performance. In a series of workshops, we will find out how to ease sensory overload and allow rest and relaxation. Our focus will be the ongoing support of the neuroqueer, neurodivergent and autistic community as well as the development of tools and strategies to expand our practice and enable us to see performance venues from a different angle.
In addition, brut Wien will continue to reach out to blind and seeing-impaired as well as deaf and hearing-impaired audiences. Over the season, we plan to provide dance and movement workshops as well as shows featuring artistic audio description and ASL (Austrian Sign Language) interpretation.
