we show you what you can't see – In March brut presents for three weeks new positions in choreography and performance as part of the imagetanz festival. 17 local and international artist(-collectives) will present a varied programme of world premieres, Austrian premieres and studio visits at different venues.
We visit real, metaphorical, and social spaces that are defined by markings and demarcations, but in which the potential for transgression is always dormant. Despite their boarders, spaces never exist autonomously, but communicate with each other, overlap in interstices, and thus are always in connection with each other and mutually conditional.
The festival will be opened by Annamaria Ajmone, who will take the audience into a dark forest to sharpen their senses and explore this nocturnal ecosystem together. In youAI, the transdisciplinary research group H.A.U.S. deals with shared spheres of humans and machines. Nora Jacobs, on the other hand, dives into the world of the Western in a cowboy costume and practices doing nothing.
With crying through my white mother's tears, mirabella paidamwoyo* dziruni confronts white-dominated spaces in their coziness, and Sandra Chatterjee explores the olfactory side of racism with the visitors. It gets musical with Sebastiano Sing, who dedicates himself to guilty pleasures and introduces the genre of dark schlager to the audience. The performance by FRANZ Pop Collective takes place in self-chosen isolation on the sofa and Potpourri transforms the theater space into a club in the early morning hours with 4 A.M..
The format Handle with care takes visitors, among other things, to a cocktail bar and journeys into the past.
The performance program will be rounded off and moved to the dance floor with a voguing ball by Kiki House of Dive and the closing party with the collective A party called JACK.
And so with imagetanz 2023 we enter into a mesh of questions: Who owns which space? Which spaces are accessible, with whom do we share them or how can we occupy them, take them? And above all: how can we overcome borders?
