The Freischwimmer Fesitival is an international platform for new-comers, presenting contemporary artistic approaches by young artists from the independent theatre, dance and performance scene every other year. The festival is mutually organised and curated by brut Wien, Sophiensæle Berlin, Forum Freies Theater Düsseldorf, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main and Gessnerallee Zurich.
We want everything but to become like our parents. And while we attempt to flee our fathers’ fates we have already started looking like our mothers. It is similar in social processes. Even though we are deeply convinced to have learned from history, we still pay for the mistakes of previous generations only to produce new ones non-stop. How negotiable are all these contracts settled by our biographies, tying us down and taking up our time and energy? How can be breach, re-negotiate or cancel them? What can we do? The ninth instalment of the Freischwimmer Festival has new models of political art in store to discuss just these questions, telling alternative histories, offering ways to leave normative partner relationships behind, shaking off rules of conduct and fighting for equal rights for fathers and daughters!
