zu Gast im brut - Election Special

Surprising guests, simple questions, straight rules

The interviews in the third edition of Zu Gast im brut revolve around the presidential elections in Austria. But this time for once, it’s not the candidates who are in the centre but those people of Vienna who actively support them: campaign volunteers, party members or canvassers. Five individuals from the teams of the most promising candidates for the federal presidency will be probed at brut, starting at 7 pm.

What does an Andreas Khol fan look like, who supports Alexander van der Bellen, and are we even going to find anyone sympathising with Rudolf Hundstorfer? Theater im Bahnhof wants to present the people who vote for Norbert Hofer and those who know Irmgard Griss personally. The idea is not for them to elaborate, expose, dismantle, entertain or stand their ground in front of an audience. Instead, spectators are supposed to be allowed a small glance into the guests’ worlds. That being said, of course, there will be the occasional need to ask unpleasant follow-up questions.

This is the third edition of Theater im Bahnhof’s Guests at brut series. Each time, a genially merciless interviewer allows insights into the country’s mentality. In each episode, different local personalities are invited for 30-minute interviews. Pia Hierzegger asks them randomly drawn questions ranging from the current political situation to personal issues, thus unfolding a vivid selection of greatly varying insights, views and perspectives.

Graz-based Theater im Bahnhof makes contemporary theatre for the people and deals with the Austrian identity between tradition and pop culture. It is Austria’s largest independent theatre company and has been a regular guest at brut, most recently with its production No, Nothing in co-operation with the performance duo united sorry.
