Mary Ocher, the queen of Berlin avant-garde pop music, ventures onto the forbidden detours of electronic tribal ecstasy. As Mary Ocher + Your Government, she has been touring the world flanked by not one but two percussionists for quite some time. She has now also published an album of the same name in January 2016, in which she serves various elements from old-school industrial to afro-futuristic beats all the way to krautrock and new wave influences. A pop shaman with Russian and Israeli roots, she plays with influences from religious and mystical rites of ancient tribes, thereby creating an audio-visual explosion of iconically futuristic rock’n’roll. Her sound, somewhere between Kate Bush and David Bowie, is as ambivalent as she ‒ a singer-songwriter, Riot Grrrl, and all-round entertainer.
“Mary Ocher gives me the chills, she frightens me with her feral soul. Her sound is of a true outsider artist, immaculately self-possessed. Was this recorded this century? Or out of a basement that she’s been imprisoned in all her life? Time to set her loose on the world. I'm so happy she exists. Set me free, Mary!” Karen O, Yeah Yeah Yeahs
