The Nameless of Leopoldstadt

Supporting programme for Nesterval’s The Pink Triangle

Meeting point: Gasthaus Hansy at Praterstern
City walking tour in German / Three dates with ÖGS (Austrian Sign language) interpreting
{Queer city history} {Walking tour} {Outreach}

Complementing Nesterval’s The Pink Triangle – A History of The Nameless, QWIEN offers a themed walking tour of Vienna’s 2nd district, Leopoldstadt, delving deeper into the show’s main theme, the persecution of queer people during the years of the Nazi terror in Vienna. The tour starts at Praterstern and continues through Leopoldstadt until it ends at the performance venue, brut nordwest. The fates of those affected show how the Gestapo and the Kripo conducted their persecutions and allow insights into a vivid subculture systematically destroyed by the Nazis. The tour starts at Gasthaus Hansy at Praterstern, corner of Heinestraße.

Nesterval – Der Rosa Winkel. Die Geschichte der Namenlosen

The Pink Triangle (Der Rosa Winkel) is based on Nesterval’s acclaimed show The Nameless (Die Namenlosen) that ran for weeks in the brut programme past season before becoming the Kampnagel International Summer Festival’s ‘hit at the Hamburg Harbour’ and touched visitors’ hearts here and there. The Vienna production was nominated for the Nestroy theatre prize, its Hamburg version for the nachtkritik-Theatertreffen. Nesterval’s revised version entitled The Pink Triangle – A History of the Nameless is again designed as an immersive event. Sure to crawl under your skin, The Pink Triangle – A History of the Nameless is another evening that deals with the systematic persecution and murder of homosexual and trans people in Vienna during the National Socialist terror. Turning the audience into the protagonists’ thoughts, this piece of commemorative culture keeps ‘Never Forget’ alive.

QWIEN’s guided tour of Vienna’s 2nd district delves deeper into the show’s themes, complementing the immersive theatrical production.
