Based on Todd Haynes’ film Safe (1995), director Julie Pfleiderer, composer Oxana Omelchuk, author Pieter Delfosse, performer Caroline Daish and three musicians from the renowned Ictus ensemble create a portray of contemporary hypersensitivity: SAFE is an immersive journey that stimulates all our senses.

A woman suffers from increasingly intense allergic reactions that make it impossible for her to lead a normal life. What we do not know is whether she is the victim of an ubiquitous invisible threat or whether she is an ingenious manipulator trying to withdraw from the world.

SAFE by Pfleiderer and Ictus is a hybrid experiment combining performance and contemporary music. What starts out as a concert develops into an artful live audio drama. The Western world today tries to explain everything. But what can we do against phenomena, issues and blind spots to which we cannot find any final answers?

Director Julie Pfleiderer works in the fields of performance, sound art and film at the interface of documentation and fiction. Her works have already been shown at numerous theatres and festivals all over Europe, including steirischer herbst Graz, brut Wien, Beursschouwburg Bruxelles, Vooruit Ghent or Gessnerallee Zürich. In 2014, her film Infinite Jetzt won the Special Jury Award for Experimental Film at the Film Festival of New Orleans. www.julie-pfleiderer.de
