The current edition of imagetanz allows the audience yet again to meet the artists of the festival while dancing. Each of imagetanz artists Hungry Sharks, Sara Lanner and Eva-Maria Schaller will host one open workshop entitled Saturdance in co-operation with Tanz die Toleranz. In this format, they impart those sub-genres of dance that also informed their respective performances for the festival. Following the workshop, at 3 pm, each Saturday’s artist will present a brief exclusive sharing of their current piece in the imagetanz programme.
Since 2007, Saturdance has been an integral part of the programme of Tanz die Toleranz, taking place on Saturdays between 1 and 3 pm at Brunnenpassage. Attendance is free of charge, no prior experience in dancing is required. This provides a low-threshold, accessible way of experiencing dance as an art form, especially for participants who have not had previous access to dance and movement.
On the final weekend of imagetanz, it will be Eva-Maria Schaller’s turn to host the Saturdance at Brunnenpassage. Her workshop is based on techniques of contemporary dance that help sensitise one’s own body and the space around it. In order to achieve this, Eva-Maria Schaller will give the participants little choreographic tasks, incorporating short sequences from her solo Vestris 4.0, which will be shown as part of imagetanz that same weekend. What kind of new movements and forms arise when we combine baroque gestures and classical ballet vocabulary with expressive approaches and thus transfer them into a contemporary “body” we can then begin to play with?
Eva-Maria Schaller is a freelance dancer and performer who lives and works in Vienna. After finishing her training in classical ballet at the Vienna State Opera’s ballet school, she studied contemporary dance at the Codarts institution of higher learning in Rotterdam. During her studies and afterwards she danced with international companies such as Emio Greco|PC, Stephen Shropshire, Edan Gorlicki and Anouk van Dijk, performing across Europe, the United States and Asia. In Vienna, she worked as a performer in various productions with Christine Gaigg/2nd nature, performing in shows at ImPulsTanz, steirischer herbst, Wien Modern, Schauspielhaus Wien and Tanzquartier Wien, followed by recent frequent collaborations with Sabine Glenz in Munich. She realises her own choreographic pieces in collaboration with colleagues from various artistic fields.
