Dance To Dance To is a glamourously eccentric dance performance combining futuristic coolness with electronic beats and a piece of dance history. It is based on the iconic unfinished dance piece Dance To Dance To by Mexican choreographer Esmeralda Vasquez, which was a huge success at the time and is surrounded by countless rumours sparked mainly by Vasquez’s death.
Inspired by Esmeralda Vasquez’s piece and the idea of an unfinished masterpiece, Norwegian choreographer Ludvig Daae has created a dance performance that is as relevant as the original Dance To Dance To was when it premiered in 1783. Supported by three dancers, Daae re-imagines Vasquez’s classic piece and transforms it into a contemporary dance performance. He particularly emphasises the disco dance elements already present in Vasquez’s work and superposes it with his own interpretation of what this classic performance would look and sound like today.
Ludvig Daae is a Norwegian dancer-choreographer. He studied at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. His works revolve around the topics of entertainment and popular culture and have been shown all over Europe, for example at the Oslo Opera House, at MDT Stockholm, Vooruit Gent, Kampnagel Hamburg, Gessnerallee Zurich and Sophiensæle Berlin. Based on his piece Dance To Dance To, he devised a choreography for the Cullberg Ballet to be performed at the Nobel Banquet in Stockholm in December 2017.
