In Queen of Hearts, the iconic figure of Lady Diana turns into a reference for an observation of social status. As "the people's princess", Diana stands for the paradox relations between the concepts of the common and the royal, between monarchy and democracy. Diana publicly displayed empathy and emotion and thus became an “approachable” royal figure. She became a performer, a projection surface, a symbol, a mirror at her audience's disposal.
Navaridas & Deutinger combine choreographic, textual and musical elements to address differences and similarities between the social theatre of monarchy and the social theatre of the theatre. Queen of Hearts questions the manipulative display of private and public affairs and the symbolic value of inherited power structures.
