Henrike Iglesias are back at brut! FLAMES TO DUST is their show about finality and grief, endings and loops and loops and endings. Together we ask: Why do all good things come to an end (end)? And what if we were able to start again? Inspired by the death positive movement and based on personal experiences, the performance collective goes on a journey that’s all about mortality and vanitas.
Caught up between rebirth and the apocalypse, we ask – together with our smartphones: What are the narratives that make our being in this world kind of meaningful? What’s our relationship with death? Why are we so eager to ignore its presence in our everyday lives? And what does death mean for queer family structures?
For Henrike Iglesias, phenomena of popular culture and the mass media mirror social situations and grievances, so they set out to shed a light on them from queer and feminist perspectives. They do experimental performances and are based in Berlin and Basel, the regular crew including Anna Fries, Eva G. Alonso, Malu Peeters, Marielle Schavan, and Sophia Schroth. Their shows are mostly shown at SOPHIENSÆLE in Berlin, and have been invited to such events as the Heidelberger Stückemarkt, the FIBA Festival in Buenos Aires, the Berlin Theatertreffen’s Digital Showcase, and Politik im Freien Theater. Their pieces OH MY! (imagetanz festival, 2019), FRESSEN (‘Gorging’, 2020), and UNDER PRESSURE (2021) were presented at brut Wien. https://henrikeiglesias.com
