For its second edition, In the Field is focusing on transregional networking. The application is open to participants who live in Vienna as well as in an extended geographical radius around the city, regardless of provincial or national borders.
The Wiener Festwochen represent a forum for multidisciplinary works that is international in scope yet firmly anchored in the city. The festival is ideally suited for a collaborative, many-voiced reflection on contemporary artistic practices. Daily meetings and agenda items are drawn up and staged in co-operation with brut Wien, a leading production space for Vienna’s independent performing arts scene, and mentored by Vienna-based artist Stefanie Sourial.
The focus of the discussions within the group, with the mentor and the invited artists, will be on the artistic positions on show at the festival. Another aspect will consist of discussing the issues raised by a festival as ‘exceptional setting’. What new contexts of meaning does such a concentration of artistic works open up? What spaces can these temporary communities create?
Through these exchanges with the artistic and organisational teams of the Wiener Festwochen and brut Wien, In the Field offers a practical insight into the structures and working methods of the cultural and festival sector.
Time frame: 15 May to 30 May 2021
The talks will be held in English.
Mentor: Stefanie Sourial (performance artist & lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna) Programme Coordinator: Eva Wolfesberger (associate curator, brut Wien)
