Happy birthday, imagetanz! brut celebrates the end of this year's imagetanz festival with the two DJs isocialbutterflyy and bossschnuffi, the party is curated by the record label Tender Matter. All festival visitors, artists and friends of brut are invited to come together to the sounds of spherical electronic music and celebrate the 35th anniversary of imagetanz.
Meeting in Vienna by collaborating within the scene, isocialbutterflyy and bossschnuffi are coming from different but still comparable queer feminist collectives, organizing important events such as HYPERREALITY and DISHES in Vienna as well as POSSY in Hamburg. They have been exchanging tracks with each other for a while now and are more than honored for being able to play together for the first time at the closing of imagetanz 2024 in the frame of the installation Choir of Kin.
isocialbutterflyy (she/her) is an artist, costume designer and DJ, based in Vienna. In her work, she investigates interdisciplinary and unknown images in sound, film and theater from an afro-diasporic position. Metamorphosing into isocialbutterflyy, spherical surfaces get mixed with housy and breaking beats and influences from diverse genres, such as pop, jungle, rnb and trance. A shifting experience was 2017 the co-foundation of POSSY, a collective which works around visibility of FLINTA* in extended club contexts.
bossschnuffi (they/them) works as a graphic designer and promoter based in Vienna. They co-founded the viennese event series DISHES in 2021 and work on HYPERREALITY, festival for club culture in Vienna, curating the festivals program as well as creating their visual language – both in different collective settings. They’re also part of the CIVA festival since 2021 and will be taking over the curation of the music program for the 2024 edition.
About Tender Matter
Tender Matter is a record label founded in Vienna in 2019 that focuses on queer and gender nonconforming artists working within the spectrum of sound art, including experimental electronic music, sound based performance and sound installations. The event series Tender Matter Presents focuses on establishing collaborations with queer experimental artists and a variety of collectives and institutions.
Melissa Antunes de Menezes is a publicist and co-founder of the music label Tender Matter, where they work as label curator and event manager. Melissa holds a Master's degree in Critical and Curatorial Studies and is an academic researcher, specialized in queer experimental electronic music. They are currently the head of production for the collective Transformative Narratives with the piece Choir of Kin in the framework of imagetanz 2024.
Tony Wagner (he/they) is a musician and artist whose work builds on the conception and production of immersive ambiences for introspective listening. As co-founder and co-manager of the music label Tender Matter, Tony is working as publisher, promoter and event organizer. Within the art collective Transformative Narratives, Tony and artist Lena Kuzmich initiate performative and audiovisual experiences through transdisciplinary worldbuilding.
