As part of the brut series Handle with care, choreographer Mirjam Sögner invites you to attend a rehearsal of her new project ZaZaZa – ein Reigen. The starting point of her research is the simple but fundamental question: Why do we dance? The Handle with care format at brut regularly opens rehearsal processes and creates space for dialog and exchange. Artists show parts of their work in front of a small audience, receive feedback, and turn the visitors into accomplices.
In ZaZaZa – ein Reigen, Mirjam Sögner takes a close look at the medium of dance itself and choreography as a structuring method and examines it as an effective modality for practicing mutual connectedness. She combines the gestures and patterns of alpine folk dances with stimulating electronic techno beats. On stage, an arc spans between precise step sequences and audible and visible physical force fields. Rhythm becomes visible through the body, space can be experienced sonically, legible structures and dynamics are playfully intertwined.
Mirjam Sögner is a choreographer, performer, organizational developer and coach. Her artistic work is strongly rooted in the post-humanist discourse: She uses the stage as a site of collective imagination and the performing arts as a way to dream up and offer possible answers to the question of how our interconnectedness as humans with non-human / non-living entities such as electro-magnetic waves, geological processes, everyday objects etc. can be experienced and thereby anchored in our thinking, being, acting. In 2018, the desire to transfer choreographic principles into other fields of application brought her into innovation consulting and systemic organizational development. The need to take dance and performance out of the consumable stage context led to works such as the event series ROOOMS, which provides a choreographic experience for an audience without human performers, as well as SCORE BASE, an online platform that aims to contribute to the practice-based exchange between artists and their audience.
