HOW DO YOU

Performance World premiere in German and English and Austrian Sign Language

{Drag} {Cowboy} {Idleness}

What can a cowboy do when there are no more cows? In HOW DO YOU, a white woman plays a man – straight, white – in a cowboy costume having a go at being a drag queen. Cowboy Cowdy is a professional full-time idler, always busy doing nothing. He enters the stage with his two horses, but they both stand in his way just by also doing nothing. Can a revolution arise from doing nothing?

Nora Jacobs – How Do You

The Western man has always been a phenomenon of popular culture. In a way representing the United States, he has shaped America’s image in Western Europe. While Cowboy Cowdy in HOW DO YOU does stare into vast nothingness, he is not the type of hero that Hollywood and the entertainment industry like to portray. This cowboy is a professional full-time idler, always busy doing nothing. He enters the stage with his horses, Severin(e) and Alex. But the horses stand in his way just by also doing nothing. What is it that horses do? And what is it that Cowboy Cowdy doesn’t do? Cowboy Cowdy is a character that humorously fails. If doing nothing contains doing, what can this doing nothing achieve that the doing can’t? Can a revolution arise from doing nothing? And how many people are needed for it to work?

Nora Jacobs works with performance and video art in implementing large-scale installation artworks. She received her diploma with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2017. Before, she acquired an acting degree at the Norwegian Theatre Academy (with some time abroad at the Zurich University of the Arts as part of the Erasmus Programme) and attended the Academy of Circus Arts. Various residencies took her to Rote Fabrik (Zurich), the ImPulsTanz festival, a cargo boat crossing the Baltic Sea, and the Sahara Desert. Nora Jacobs is a co-founder of queer-feminist group HEATHERS.

The performance on March 06th will be followed by an artist talk, moderated by Hyo Lee.
