The inclusive theatre company BACK TO BACK THEATRE is embarking on a daring collective experiment: what does making theatre in a democratic way right from the outset actually mean? It’s a three-day process that revolves essentially around three main questions: Who’s taking part? Who’s listening? And who’s contributing what?
Participants in this workshop lab will have to find a way of working together. What will be created will depend on what individuals can offer and how well they listen, a kind of democracy for theatre making. The objective is to create a performance over three days to be viewed by an audience at the workshop’s conclusion.
Bruce Gladwin, Artistic Director of the Back to Back Theatre, and the three actors Simon Laherty, Sarah Mainwaring, Scott Price will be taking part in the experiment together with the other participants. It will reflect on the one hand the inclusive theatre company’s usual working practice while illustrating the seriousness of the proposal to create something new through a democratic approach.
