In Angry Hour, the performance duo Sööt/Zeyringer tackles female anger in their typical minimalist style. Serena Williams, the movie character Carrie and many other women ramp and rage in a number of real and fictional events from mythology, pop culture and everyday life. Together they form a collection of 28 types of anger that, neatly lined up, build up a relentless storm of outrage.
Serena Williams breaking her tennis racket following an argument with the referee; Martha Rosler handling kitchen utensils in a threatening manner in her feminist parody Semiotics of the Kitchen; or Carrie in the eponymous horror classic, whose suppressed rage eventually climaxes in brutal, bloody revenge: these and other events, both real and fictional, from mythology, pop culture and everyday life are analysed for their anger potential. Tiina Sööt and Dorothea Zeyringer deconstruct moments of female rage. They scrutinise its components and combine them into a structure that reveals the enormous potential for empowerment, but also the (self-)destructive powers female anger can unleash.
The Artists Tiina Sööt und Dorothea Zeyringer have been working together in Vienna since 2012. Their performances oscillate between the lines of visual art, dance and theatre, discussing both socially relevant and personal issues in a poetic, humorous manner.
