In January 2018, Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir together with Laia Fabre will open the new brut stage at WERK X-Eldorado. The two artists will explore the foreign and the familiar – the I and the WE and their mutual interactions. Based on their different backgrounds and careers, the two of them will use the stage as a place of encounter in the moment. Through a personal and playful approach, they will explore the space between and around them using movement, text and interaction with objects, thus creating an abstract dialogue full of subtle humour.
Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, and now lives and works in Vienna. She studied dance at the Reykjavík Dance Academy and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds as well as choreography at SEAD Salzburg, where she graduated in 2014. Andrea Gunnlaugsdóttir has presented her work on various platforms in Austria and abroad and received the Federal Chancellor’s Office’s START stipend in 2015. She has been performing and dancing in the pieces of Michikazu Matsune, Doris Uhlich and Andrea Maurer since 2014. At imagetanz 2017, she showed her solo Blank Blank and, together with Alix Eynaudi, Long Long Revisited at brut.
Laia Fabre is originally from Barcelona, Spain, and has lived in Vienna for many years. She is an interdisciplinary artist who graduated from BAU Art & Design University in Barcelona and studies visual arts under Dorit Margreiter at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Her work, invited and exhibited internationally, consists mainly of performances, painting and video. Laia's work reflects on time issues, related to her experiences in every-day life and probing the limits between art and her generation’s life. In 2007, she and Thomas Kasebacher established the performance duo notfoundyet, which focusses on subjects around contemporary life and notion of community. Collaboration is a way to learn but also a way to show that different groups in society can work together. Their most recent project Houseparty. Episode 1 & 2 premiered in November 2017 at brut Wien. Houseparty, Episode 3 & 4 will premiere at WUK by the end of March 2018.
