The Handle with Care series grants peeks into artistic processes and encourages artists and audiences to exchange views. This time, Daniel Aschwanden presents his new long-term project DOG_men: Week by week for 52 weeks, the Viennese performer/choreographer will initiate a new performance predominantly in different places in Vienna but also in other cities in Asia and Africa. DOG_men revolves around thematic threads of liquid identities that are generated not only by physical migratory movements, but also via shifts of borders due to the influence of several media. Aschwanden juxtaposes four-thousand-year-old myths such as that of the “dog people” with trend-setting current myths in science, toying with fictions of hybrid bodies produced in a ‘biomediatised’ manner. True to Aschwanden’s approach of regarding the city as a stage and including both professionals and amateurs, he will reach out to and involve a great variety of city dwellers.
In the context of Handle with Care, an artist talk with Daniel Aschwanden will grant audiences an initial chance to learn more about the DOG_men project and have a chat with the artist about approaches, backgrounds and procedures.
brut Specials is a new series including various events that allow new insights into artistic processes and room for talks and feedback. The idea is for brut to become more open and tangible for audiences, colleagues, neighbours at Karlsplatz and the people in the city as brut Specials facilitates dialogues and encounters and tries out new formats while constantly querying brut’s own point of view. brut Specials is not about presenting complete results but about allowing the audience insights into how creative processes work in order to enable new forms of mutual exchange.
