Navaridas & Deutinger - Queen of hearts

In Queen of Hearts, the iconic figure of Lady Diana turns into a reference for an observation of social status. As "the people's princess", Diana stands for the paradox relations between the concepts of the common and the royal, between monarchy and democracy. Diana publicly displayed empathy and emotion and thus became an “approachable” royal figure. She became a performer, a projection surface, a symbol, a mirror at her audience's disposal.

Navaridas & Deutinger combine choreographic, textual and musical elements to address differences and similarities between the social theatre of monarchy and the social theatre of the theatre. Queen of Hearts questions the manipulative display of private and public affairs and the symbolic value of inherited power structures.

Marta Navaridas and Alex Deutinger both studied Translation, Interpreting and Dance. They have been developing text-based performance works since 2008. They are based in Graz, Austria.

Selected works: Look at Them Now! (2008), This is Not a Ship (2008), Your Majesties (2010), Fandango and Common Consciousness (2011), Speaking of Which (2013), On the Other Hand (2013), Pontifex (Premiere: June 2017)

Their works have been shown at international festivals and venues such as Abrons Arts Center New York, Gessnerallee Zürich, Maison de la Danse Lyon, Palazzo Grassi Venice, The Place London, Danspalladium Malmoe, Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint Denis, Centrale Fies Drodesera, Pôle Sud Strasbourg, Impulstanz Festival Vienna, Dansens Hus Stockholm, DanceWeek Festival Zagreb, Muffatwerk Munich, Frascati Theater Amsterdam, Escena Contemporánea Madrid, among others.
