The fourth instalment of the GUESTS at brut series centres around this year’s motto of the Vienna Art Week, “Seeking Beauty” and the upholding of appearances. Four individuals personally or professionally involved with beauty will be Pia Hierzegger’s guests this time. The panel of interviewees may range from a plastic surgeon to a fashion victim or a graphic designer all the way to a jeweller or art philosopher.
Pia Hierzegger, Graz-based Theater im Bahnhof’s empathic but merciless interviewer, thoroughly probes her guests one after the other in intimate one-on-one conversations. The questions, chosen at random, may range from the current political situation to personal issues. The main aim is not to explain, uncover or unmask anything. Instead, the audience is supposed to be granted insights into the guests’ worlds and the country’s mentality. And yet, sometimes, unpleasant follow-up questions might be inevitable… This way, Theater im Bahnhof reveals highly diverse insights, perspectives and points of view every night.
Graz-based Theater im Bahnhof makes contemporary theatre for the people and deals with the Austrian identity between tradition and pop culture. It is Austria’s largest independent theatre company and has been a regular guest at brut.
