Handle With Care - Veza Fernandez

Attention: The evening is fully booked, no more reservations possible. The premiere of the piece will be during the Freischwimmer festival in December 2016 at brut. You can buy online tickets for the premiere in the beginning of November. Thanks for your understanding.

In her works, artist/performer Veza Fernández has most recently been staging and illuminating various aspects of her own family. Her newest work, The father care piece piece, which she will present at brut as part of the Freischwimmer festival in early December this year, is dedicated to the character of her father. She stages him using four men – choreographers, directors, visual artists – who are all her father’s age.

A couple of weeks prior to her premiere at the Freischwimmer festival, Veza Fernández opens her rehearsal process on 13 October for an early showing and professional talk with her “fathers” Frans Poelstra, Yosi Wanunu and Roland Rauschmeier. The unusual family will show extracts from their piece, talk artistic shop and exchange views on fatherliness, power and care with the audience.

brut Extras is a new series including various events that allow new insights into artistic processes and room for talks and feedback. The idea is for brut to become more open and tangible for audiences, colleagues, neighbours at Karlsplatz and the people in the city as brut Extras facilitates dialogues and encounters and tries out new formats while constantly querying brut’s own point of view. brut Extras is not about presenting accomplished results but about allowing the audience peeks into how creative processes work in order to enable new forms of mutual exchange.
