Kapitalismustribunal
{Daniel Richter} {Dirk Stermann} {Haus Bartleby}

In a charity event on Sunday, the 20th of March, the original artwork Das Kapitalismustribunal by Daniel Richter will be put up for auction along with other works such as Schlachten by Rudi Kargus, Kaliber 50 Cent by Franziska Becher, The Nature by Theresa Vilsmeier and fair se by Ismael Duá. The proceeds will go to the Capitalism Tribunal that will take place at brut Wien from May 1st to 12th to study the question whether capitalism is a crime. This auction will allow for a redistribution of capital from the crazy business of the art market in order to support the work of the Capitalism Tribunal. Dirk Stermann will open the charity auction at brut Wien.

The Capitalism Tribunal is finding and inventing a fair way to deal with the putative crimes of European capitalism. To do so, brut Wien, performative arts venue at the Vienna Karlsplatz, will be repurposed as a court of law. Its aim will be to account for the failures of the old order of things and to investigate what it is that must never happen again in a future economy. The Reaching a verdict will take place in November at Werk X.

This charity auction will help the Capitalism Tribunal operate in a politically and economically independent manner. Artists such as Rudi Kargus, Daniel Richter, Franziska Becher, Theresa Vilsmeier, Ismael Duá and others support the Tribunal by making their pieces available to the Tribunal for exhibition and sale as “images of capitalism” and also by being part of or present at the matinée. The full catalogue with all exhibits up for auction will be published on brut-wien.at on March 7th.

The matinée’s ceremonious opening will be hosted by Dirk Stermann, followed by some expert statements from an art-history perspective and the auction itself. The organisers of the Capitalism Tribunal will explain the purpose of the charity: “What is the peaceful intention of the Capitalism Tribunal as a cathartic moment in the history of Europe?” and: “Why seriously playing with the art market as the most crazy business is our final chance of redistributing useful capital in the sense of the Capitalism Tribunal’s investigations?”

Following an intermission including a champagne reception and artist talks, the charity auction to finance the Tribunal’s work will take place pursuant to common rules and regulations. The purchased object may be packaged and taken along immediately or delivered at a later time.

As agreed by the organisers, the artworks will be on display from March 16th. For a preliminary visit, please register by sending an e-mail to organisation@brut-wien.at. All prospects and buyers are guaranteed confidentiality as well as a pleasant Sunday.
