Dr. Kawis Erforschung des Einstellungsinventars der Liebesstile

brut
Performance World premiere in German and English
{gender comedy} {love app} {sit-down musical}

The puzzles, catastrophes and forms of love have always been the subject of comedies, tragedies and musicals. To finally bring light into the darkness of delusions and confusions, the three members of music group Dr. Kawi have set out to meticulously explore and document love styles for their work at brut.

Gin Müller, Barbara Kaiser und Tamara Wilhelm - Dr. Kawis Erforschung des Einstellungsinventars der Liebesstile

Who loves how, whom and why? And what is love anyway? In a playful experiment, Dr. Kawi scrutinise all these questions while effortlessly transcending both genre and gender limitations. Dr. Kawi draw up pie charts and amorous apps, zero in on polyamorous and monogamous relationships, interweave pop songs with quotes, stories and videos and distil from these the essence of various kinds of love styles including eros, ludus, agape and the like.

The piece is inspired by exceptional biographies such as that of diva Lady Gaga, who transcends gender limits, or revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, queer amorous narratives like the comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, Shakespeare’s loversEros Ramazzotti or empirical love-style researchers and exposers of the “twosome lie”. Love style essences are the protagonists of test apps produced live by Dr. Kawi for musical comedy lovers and all those who asks themselves and would like to sing out loud questions such as: How do you love? What love style do you feel closest to? Is love a musical?

Music group Dr. Kawi marks the first instance of collaboration between dramaturge, theatre scholar, performer and queer theorist Gin Müller, performer and media artist Barbara Kaiser and experimental electro musician and performer Tamara Wilhelm. Wilhelm and Kaiser have been guests at brut as part of the experimental music series Velak Gala. Gin Müller has devised numerous productions at brut in the past, most recently TRANS GENDER MOVES that brought the personal stories of three trans persons to the stage.
