Since 2005, the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra has been the first major ensemble in Austria to represent a specific form of experimental composition and complex improvised music, picking up on a discourse involving novel concepts of organising sound. Impromptu compositions transmitted by hand signals and created in co-operation with writers of experimental literature inform the orchestra’s unpredictable soundscapes. Michael Fischer, who launched the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra in 2005, acts as an instant composition conductor with improv orchestras and transient major ensembles in Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan. In November, brut will open its doors for this ensemble for the first time, hosting an evening full of experimental new discoveries.
