Stadt der Körperlosen (City of the Bodiless) is a dance performance. On stage, Inge Gappmaier and her team have created an abstract city. The audience sits in the middle of this city and experiences the performance from different perspectives. The work explores the following questions: How does digital technology change our lives? How does it change the way we think? How does it change the way we live together with other people?
The dance performance Stadt der Körperlosen (City of the Bodiless) takes the audience into a shifting urban landscape in which the dimensions of space, time and embodiment are thrown into disarray. Together with five performers, choreographer Inge Gappmaier explores how digital communication technologies shape our understanding of ourselves as human beings and our notions of living together.
Between disorientation and connectedness, control and loss of agency, the performance opens up a space of experience that reflects the ongoing renegotiation of reference systems in an increasingly digital world. Placed within the model city designed by Mira König and the real-time sound architecture composed by Paul Kotal, the audience is guided into different perspectives of perception. Digital and physical logics of space and time shift in relation to one another and develop their own distinct dynamics. Spaces of reflection emerge on collective organisation, feeling of powerlessness, and how we deal with proximity and distance.
At the heart of the dance performance lie questions of orientation and humanity in a world where boundaries are increasingly being violated by force and familiar frames of references are being eroded. Stadt der Körperlosen invites the audience on an exploration of the city as an abstract concept, in which poetic shifts reveal unfamiliar perspectives.
