To ensure that everyone can find their way to our venues, we offer a pick-up service from nearby public transport stops for selected events. Information about the meeting point and time can be found directly on the event pages. You can register by email at barrierefreiheit@brut-wien.ator by telephone on +43 1 587 8774.

Access friends accompany events at brut Wien and support visitors with accessibility needs. They offer practical help and guidance, provide information about schedules and procedures, assist with navigating the venue and finding quiet or retreat areas, and are available as points of contact throughout the event. Access friends can be recognised at brut Wien by their yellow high-visibility vests and bells.

Comfortable seating and lying options, such as beanbags, cushions and mats, are available.

Audio description at brut refers to the verbal description of the experience of theatre, dance and performances. It can serve to simply describe what is happening on stage, whilst also conveying the sensory and atmospheric experience of the piece. There are various forms of audio description: the description can be transmitted via headphones or spoken by a person positioned either on stage or in the auditorium. Audio description can be provided live or played back.

As many of the performances are world premieres, we ask for your understanding if this information is only added at a later date. We do our best to find this out as early as possible.

Early Boarding allows visitors to enter the venue earlier. Before the official start, there is plenty of time to arrive at your leisure, find a seat, use the toilet, get a glass of water and get used to the layout and lighting of the venue.
Details of any early boarding will be announced on the respective event pages. The duration of early boarding depends on the event format.

An audio flyer is a flyer you can listen to – in other words, the audio version of a programme or information flyer. In short audio files, one or more speakers convey the key information about an event. This includes, for example, a description of the content, details of the venue and time, and ticket information. The spoken text is often complemented by atmospheric sound elements.

Austrian Sign Language is a language in its own right with its own linguistic system, based on hand signs, facial expressions and body language. As with spoken languages, there are regional variations and dialects within ÖGS. For deaf and hard-of-hearing people, it is not only a means of communication but is essential for participating fully in everyday life on an equal footing.
Since 2005, ÖGS has been recognised as a language in the Austrian Federal Constitution.

A quiet space is a retreat area for visitors who wish to regulate their sensory input, enjoy a moment of calm, or temporarily step away from the activity at the event. The room is darkened and offers alternative seating and lying options, as well as tools such as eye masks and headphones. The quiet space is accessible at all times and supports well-being and participation throughout the event.

A relaxed event is an accessibility concept that rethinks the traditional setting of performance spaces. It originates from the autism community and aims to make sensory stimuli in theatre and performance more accessible: lighting and sound designs are developed artistically to be as low-stimulus as possible, enabling a more inclusive performance experience. Alternative seating options, leaving the auditorium during the performance, and noise from the audience are not off-limits in the context of a relaxed event, but rather an integral part of the shared experience.

A sensory regulation space is a retreat area for visitors who wish to regulate their senses and manage sensory input. The space offers tactile tools for stimulation and is equipped with a variety of stim toys and other playful elements. Here, visitors can relax, relieve stress and regain their focus. The space is accessible at all times and supports wellbeing and participation throughout the event.

Water, fruit and sweet and savoury snacks are available on site.

A soft get-out offers visitors the opportunity, after the official end of an event, to take their time to say goodbye, clarify any outstanding questions and leave the venue at their own pace.
The option of a soft get-out is announced on the respective event pages. The duration of the soft get-out depends on the event format.
This offer is aimed at people with visible and invisible disabilities, but may be used by all visitors.

Stim toys (short for stimulation toys) are small objects that provide tactile, visual, or auditory input to support self-regulation. They can help reduce stress, improve concentration and balance out sensory over- or understimulation. Stim toys are frequently used by neurodivergent/neuroqueer people, but can be helpful to everyone. Examples of stim toys include magnets, stress or kneading balls, and small cubes or rings.

Tactile guidance systems are elements fixed to the floor that enable visually impaired or blind people to find their way around public spaces, both outdoors and indoors. With the aid of a white cane, paths can be felt and perceived acoustically. Tactile guidance systems can take various forms and be made of different materials.
At present, a temporary guidance system consisting of rope and tape is in place at some of brut’s events.

A touch tour is an alternative to verbal introductions to a performance. These usually take place before a performance and focus on the sense of touch. Touch tours enable visitors to engage with the stage, costumes and props through touch and to explore them in depth. In addition, visitors can interact with the performers and thus receive a wide range of background information about the piece. Touch tours are aimed at people with and without disabilities.

Surtitles are text overlays displayed during the performance, which can be used in various ways: On the one hand, they can provide a translation of the spoken text into another language; on the other hand, they can serve as a means of participation for deaf audience members. Surtitles are displayed in a specific font size and scroll across the screen at a specific speed.

Assistance dogs are permitted in all relevant areas and premises. We would be grateful if you could register them in advance at barrierefreiheit@brut-wien.at.
Assistance dogs include guide dogs, service dogs and alert dogs.

Our events take place with free seating. If you require a specific seat, please email barrierefreiheit@brut-wien.at or call +43 1 587 8774 to let us know which seats would be ideal for you, or speak to one of our staff members on the evening of the performance.

At brut, accompanying or assisting persons receive free admission to all events. Tickets can be purchased directly from the online shop or reserved by emailing barrierefreiheit@brut-wien.at.
We kindly ask you to bring your disability pass with you.

Almost all public transport in Vienna is wheelchair accessible. Every station has accessible facilities, such as lifts or ramps. In most stations, tactile paving helps blind and visually impaired people find their way to stairs, escalators and lifts. We recommend using the WienMobil app, which provides real-time information. It not only shows which means of transport are accessible but also provides information on current lift breakdowns at stations. Furthermore, under Mobility in the settings, you can select to display only accessible departures and routes.
