In Gootopian Treatment, one person meets Doris Uhlich alone. Every encounter is intimate, calm, and personal. Slime becomes part of each treatment: a fascinating material that invites tactile exploration. The performance offers an opportunity to experience one’s own body and its boundaries in new ways. A total of 99 people can immerse themselves in this changing world.
Each person experiences the performance alone with Doris Uhlich.
With Gootopian Treatment, Doris Uhlich expands her artistic exploration of slime into a sensual and open experimental setting. Building on the performances Gootopia (Tanzquartier Wien, 2021) and Gootopia – The Treatment (brut Wien, 2023), audiences are invited not as a group but through individual encounters: 99 time slots, 99 participants, each in a one-to-one meeting with Doris Uhlich. At the centre of the work is physical contact with slime, a material that resists clear definition: neither solid nor liquid, neither entirely familiar nor entirely foreign. Slime can provoke a wide range of reactions. It may evoke disgust, spark curiosity, awaken a desire for touch, or trigger memories connected to one’s own body. In Gootopian Treatment, slime becomes counterpart, medium, and co-performer in a quiet and focused encounter. Humans and slime come into contact; bodily boundaries become tangible while simultaneously turning permeable. An ambivalent space emerges between intimacy and otherness, where the body is no longer understood as a closed entity but as a living organism in relation to other bodies, materials, forces, and forms of life.
