Winona Hudec & Lau Lukkarila I’m a Fan
Event information
I’m a Fan is a performance about being a fan. Winona Hudec and Lau Lukkarila are both musicians and performers. They show what it feels like to be a fan or an idol. Some parts of the performance are loud and fast. Other parts are calm. On stage, there are different things from the context of fan culture. There is also music equipment, such as microphones and musical instruments.
I’m a Fan researches the zest of fandom, an electric identification with a fantasy that blends into embodiment, catalysing new outcomes. The state of being a fan and adoring is used as methodology throughout conceptual, choreographic and sonic aspects of the work, as well as a point of reflection of a gaze and aesthetics.
The performance reminisces about fan and idol phenomena in the fields of music, dance, film, the humanities and everyday life, while considering fannish intensities as palliative remedies and tactical tools. Winona Hudec and Lau Lukkarila explore both the fecundity and the melancholic dislocation of past periods and the immediacy of the current moment.
The performance is dramaturgically structured around live sound, which moves between poignant consolidation, noise and syrupy lore. Light is navigating the gaze on stage, pointing to bodies, objects related to fan culture, instruments and a sound system, offering images inspired by music videos and private fanfare.
