Gerhild Steinbuch, born 1983 in Mödling (Austria), studied scenic writing in Graz and dramaturgy at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch, Berlin. In 2003 she was awarded the Retzhofer Literature Prize and in the same year won the play competition of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Berlin with kopftot. She participated in the Summer School of the Royal Court Theatre, London, as well as in the Workshop Days of the Vienna Burgtheater and was nominated for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize. In 2007/2008 Gerhild Steinbuch was a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. In the 2008/2009 season she was the in-house author of the Schauspielhaus Wien and a fellow of the Autorenwerkstatt Prosa at the Literary Colloquium Berlin. In 2014/2015 she took part in the author studio of Schauspiel Frankfurt. In 2016 Steinbuch was awarded the Hannsmann-Poethen Literaturstipendium of the state capital Stuttgart. Gerhild Steinbuch is a professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. She writes texts for spoken and musical theatre, essays, radio plays and prose and also works as a freelance dramaturge and translator from English. She is also a founding member of Nazis & Goldmund/Hydra, an internal alliance of authors against European rights, and of the collective Freundliche Mitte, which was founded in 2011 by stage designer Philine Rinnert, actor Sebastian Straub and Gerhild Steinbuch and has recently been joined by new members Christoph Bernewitz (composition), Mechthild Weber (architecture) and Simon Dietersdorfer (acting / composition). Freundliche Mitte deliberately works without a director. Recent performances include: Am Schönsten ist das was bereits verschwunden ist (steirischer herbst, Graz, 2011), Previously On (Garage X, Wien, 2014), Finsternis (brut Wien, 2016).
