OPEN CALL: In the Field 2024 – A Wiener Festwochen scholarship programme in co-operation with brut Wien

Wiener Festwochen is calling for applications for 15 scholarships for artists and cultural workers from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary under the heading In the Field. In the framework of a ten-day programme, In the Field will facilitate transregional networking and transfer of knowledge in the context of an international theatre festival, bringing together participants from a 300 kilometre radius around Vienna.

In the Field is a scholarship programme aimed at aspiring artists and cultural workers. 15 scholarship recipients from Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic are set to reconvene once again in Vienna in 2023 as part of the Wiener Festwochen. Concurrently with the festival programme, they will take a closer look together at aesthetic and structural issues pertaining to contemporary art production and, over a period of ten days, explore both the international scene and the local context. In the Field focuses on transregional networking and knowledge transfer, bringing together young people from a 300 km radius around Vienna for exchanges with one another and the city itself. A Wiener Festwochen scholarship programme in co-operation with brut Wien In the Field is a programme aimed at students and at prospective artists and cultural workers. Over a two-week period, 25 scholarship recipients will be able to accompany the Wiener Festwochen and seize the opportunity of the festival as a research topic and field of practice. The group will get to attend performances and rehearsals, talk with artists and experts in the field, acquaint themselves with production processes, and discuss their impressions within the group. Application deadline: 14 February 2021

Die In The Field-Gruppe erkundet weiterhin das vielfältige Programm der Wiener Festwochen. Während eines exklusiven Austauschs mit Anna Witt („Beathouse Donaustadt“) wurde der Intimität des Herzschlags nachgespürt, während es im Gespräch mit Mette Edvardsen und einigen ihrer „lebendigen Bücher“ um die spezielle Intimität der One-to-One-Sessions ging. Der Besuch einer Vorstellung von „aCORdo“ mit anschließendem Treffen der Performer und der Künstlerin Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe gaben Aufschluss über die Wahrnehmung und Darstellung des „Anderen“.

In the Field unterwegs

Am Eröffnungswochenende der Wiener Festwochen hat sich die In the Field-Gruppe aufgemacht in die Donaustadt. Dort haben sie die Generalprobe zu „Diamante“ und Vorstellungen von „Beat House Donaustadt“, „undercurrents“ und „Corbeaux“ besucht. Teil des Programms war auch der Talk von Mariano Pensotti („Diamante“) und Christoph Reinprecht und ein exklusiver Austausch mit Sarah Vanhee („undercurrents“) und Veza Fernández.

1st meeting: Bouchra Ouizguen und Doris Uhlich

At the first meeting, In the Field participants took part in a discussion with Austrian choreographer and performance artist Doris Uhlich and Moroccan dancer and choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen. Then they got an insight into the rehearsal of Quizguens "Corbeaux", which is performed in the context of the Wiener Festwochen.
