Gin Müller/Jan Machacek/Gorji Marzban - Fantomas Monster

Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar, the parents of artist/activist Parastour Forouhar, were among Iran’s leading opposition politicians. In 1998, they were murdered, presumably by the Iranian Secret Service. The murders were part of the so-called Chain murders of Iran, which demanded the lives of numerous oppositional intellectuals in the 1990s. Parastour Forouhar has been working in Germany since 1991. Every year, for the anniversary of her parents’ death, she travels to Tehran to take part in events commemorating her murdered parents. For that, the Iranian regime has subjected her to harassment and even part-time imprisonment.

Film-maker Thomas Giefer met Parastou Forouhar’s parents shortly before they were murdered. He was the last person to interview them on camera, resulting in a touching film document and testimony to their life-long political partnership. The film reconstructs the horrible details of this politically and religiously motivated murder, escorting the daughter Parastou Forouhar on her search for justice and the truth and following the traces of the crime right into the Islamic theocracy’s centre of power.

This film screening accompanies the premiere of the piece Fantomas Monster by Gin Müller, Gorji Marzban and Jan Machacek. This piece is based on Parastou Forouhar’s story and relates experiences of artists and activists facing real-life state terror, resistance and courageous rebellion. Further information
